His Excellency, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu has reaffirmed the administrations commitment to promoting and protecting the rights of every citizen in Kebbi State with emphasis on children. He also stated that educational reform is at the forefront of Governments activities to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for children, better teachers and better technology.

Governor Bagudu gave the assurance during a speech on the occasion of the 2016 Children’s Day celebrations. The Kebbi State Government commenced National Children's Day celebrations this morning at the Haliru Abdu Stadium in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The celebration themed: 'PROTECTING THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD IN THE FACE OF VIOLENCE & INSECURITY; ENDING CHILD MARRIAGE', the Governor said "the choice of this years theme could not have come at a better time" mentioning the challenges being faced as a nation.

He added that all stakeholders must put all hands on deck in making a conscious effort at raising awareness of parents, families, communities at all levels on the critical role of the protection of children against all forms of violence, abuse, or exploitation including abduction of children and early marriage.

He emphasized that the Government has a primary responsibility to promote and protect the rights of children as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria and Child Rights Act 2007. He told the children that he was proud of their display, expressing the love the state has for them. The children had prior to his speech done a March past with a creative parade.

The Governor ended his speech by charging the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to liaise with other agencies to work out appropriate programs including actions and measures that would help in fighting the scourge of child abuse, child abduction, child labour and child trafficking amongst others.

The celebrations also included presentation of gifts, lectures on the prevention of drug abuse and the role of youth in society.
